Litecoin (LTC) Crypto ICO Description

Considered Bitcoin's younger brother, Litecoin is one of the most popular cryptocurrencies. It is a digital payment currency much like Bitcoin and was created in 2011 as a spin-off of Bitcoin. The coin was created to be a peer to peer cryptocurrency and open source software. Unlike Bitcoin, Litecoin has a higher supply limit which stands at 84,000,000 LTC. Since its launch, the coin has climbed up the ranks and currently ranks seventh on the cryptocurrency market, with a market cap of over $2 billion.

The coin's original author is Charlie Lee who famously sold off all his coins after the ICO launch. However, he is the managing director of the Litecoin Foundation. He also notably works for Coinbase, a leading cryptocurrency exchange which supports the coin.

Before the 2017 cryptocurrency boom, Litecoin had traded for less than $10 since its launch in 2013. However, in 2017, it rallied and hit as high as $300 by December. Despite the incredible achievement, the coin dropped in 2018 following price corrections all around the market.

Litecoin (LTC) Crypto Features

Litecoin is an open source software project released under the MIT/X11 license which gives you the power to run, modify, and copy the software and to distribute, at your option, modified copies of the software. The software is released in a transparent process that allows for independent verification of binaries and their corresponding source code.

Miners are currently awarded with 25 new litecoins per block, an amount which gets halved roughly every 4 years (every 840,000 blocks). The Litecoin network is therefore scheduled to produce 84 million litecoins, which is 4 times as many currency units as Bitcoin.

The Litecoin blockchain is capable of handling higher transaction volume than its counterpart - Bitcoin. Due to more frequent block generation, the network supports more transactions without a need to modify the software in the future. As a result, merchants get faster confirmation times, while still having ability to wait for more confirmations when selling bigger ticket items.
